Monsters

OGRE

Large, cruel and hideous, Ogres are strong and have a voracious appetite for human beings, particularly children. They can be distinguished by their over-sized heads that typically hang low, hunched shoulders, and have abundant hair and beards. They typically carry a large club with them as a weapon, but prefer to use their own two hands as their weapons of choice. Once an Ogre spots its prey, it will not stop pursuing it until after it has devoured its meal. An Ogre's main handicap is that they are deeply stupid and can be easily tricked. Ogres can be killed any number of ways, just like humans, the only problem is finding something with enough force to deliver a fatal blow.

BANSHEE

A tormented and vengeful spirit, the Banshee roams the lands of Ireland leaving death and misery in her wake. Plagued by some traumatic event from her life such as a violent death, the loss of a child, or an unfaithful lover, the Banshee's spirit is denied entrance to heaven and is so overcome with grief and rage that it constantly screams and wails along the Irish countryside. Any man who is unfortunate to hear her wail, will die a horrible death by slowly wasting away until there is nothing left but a shriveled mummified corpse. The Banshee, like all spirits and faries, is vulnerable against iron and may be subdued by a virtuous woman, for women are unaffected by the Banshee's fatal cries. If the Banshee can be held at bay long enough for the first rays of the morning sun to bathe its demonic spirit in light, then it is believed that her tormented soul will finally be free of its wicked curse and will be allowed to finally ascend into heaven.

HANIVER

Living deep beneath the sea, the Haniver waits patiently for its prey. Its webbed feet and rear fins allow it to move swiftly through the water to capture anything that is unfortunate to come within reach of its massive jaws. The Haniver has an extremely heightened sense of smell that can detect a human's presence on land even from extremely low sea depths. Once it has captured the human's sent, the Haniver will abandon its pursuit of underwater prey and will head towards the surface. The instant it reaches land, the Haniver will crawl across the beach at an incredible speed and will not stop until it has clamped its jaws on the unfortunate person and will drag them back into the sea to a watery grave where it will be able to devour the helpless human at its liesure.
The Haniver has several rows of sharp teeth that it uses to immobilize its victims by secreting a paralyzing venom that is stored in its purple gums. The Haniver can be killed by shooting or stabbing it repeatedly until it stops moving or by setting it on fire and letting the reptilian beast burn to death. The fire method can be difficult to accomplish, however, due to the Haniver's nature to return to the sea the instant it feels threatened.

SPRING HEELED JACK

During the Victorian era, Spring Heeled Jack frightened and terrorized the people of England and later Scotland. Tall, thin, and having the appearance of a gentleman, Spring Heeled Jack was able to blend in with those he terrorized by dressing in a long coat and top hat until he was ready to seclude his victims from generally populated areas. Although bearing similar characteristics to those of a man, Spring Heeled Jack stood well over the height of average men, and had a devilish appearace. Such features included a pointed goatee, sharp claws at the end of his fingers, large pointed ears, and eyes that burned as if they were fire. His most distingusing abilities however was his ability to leap extraordinary heights and to breathe flames from his mouth as well as generate blue sparks of electricity. Spring Heeled Jack rarely ever physically harmed anyone, preferring to simply frighten and humiliate his victims, while cackling and laughing hysterically as he leapt away. There were accounts however, of young women who had claimed to have been raped by the creature, and later the bodies of several women were found in the streets whose bodies had shown signs of evisceration. These murders were later claimed to be the work of the nefarious "Jack the Ripper" who some claim was simply an alias of Spring Heeled Jack's. The main speculation that Spring Heeled Jack was behind the "Ripper" murders was due to the coincidence that virtually all sightings of him vanished around the time the murders ceased. Since Spring Heeled Jack possesses a number of supernatural abilites, it is assumed that he cannot be killed in the same manner as a mortal man. Therefore, it has been surmised that in order to properly destroy Spring Heeled Jack, he must either be shot with silver bullets, beheaded, or drowned in holy water.

CHARYBDIS

Once the beautiful daughter of Poseidon, Charybdis was a naiad who rode the hungry tides of the sea after her father had stirred up a storm and destroyed whole villages, submerged fields and drowning forests, claiming all of them for the sea in the name of Poseidon. Her actions enraged Zeus so much that he transformed her into a huge blob of a creature whose face was all mouth and her arms and legs were flippers. As a result of her monstrous form, Charybdis was cursed with a never-ending thirst. She would open her giant maw in order to drink as much of the sea as she could, including wayward ships and sailors who were unfortunate enough to get caught in her pull, before the pressure would build up in her body, causing her to belch and vomit the sea back into the air and forcing her body to the bottom of the watery depths. Once at the bottom of the sea, her now empty body would slowly rise back up where she would begin the process again. There is no speculated or known way to kill Charybdis.

SCYLLA

Once a beautiful nymph, Scylla was transformed by the sorceress Circe into a horrible sea monster whose body consisted of twelve tentacle-like legs and several vicious wolf-heads ringing her waist. Devastated by the loss of her renowned beauty, Scylla made her way to a narrow channel of water and made her home between the large rocks that rested there. Once she had made her dwelling there, Scylla became imprisoned by Circe who bound her wrists in chains that were set into the rocks and was unable to free herself. She stood there in utter misery for centuries, unable to move, loathing and destroying everything that came into her reach. Whenever a ship passed, each of her heads would seize a human and devour them. It is unknown how to kill Scylla, for anyone who has ever attempted the feast has perished. The best strategy would be to fire arrows into the eyes of each of her horrendous heads in order to blind them, then to severe her tentacle-like legs when they emerged from the water. Once this has been done, attempting to set Scylla ablaze with fire would be the best theory to destroy her.

GOBLIN

A legendary mischievous and evil creature, the Goblin makes its home deep underground in dark and damp caves. They are just as hideous to behold as they are ferocious and malicious. A Goblin's strength varies depending on its size and stature. The larger a Goblin is, the greater its strength and ferocity. In contrast, smaller Goblins tend to be weaker in strength, but under no circumstances should they be underestimated. Regardless of its size and physical strength, a Goblin's true nature is to terroize and instill fear. Goblins are carnivorous and will eat anything ranging from cattle, horses, and if given the opportunity, humans (specifically children and infants). A Goblin can be killed rather easily by simply stabbing it with a sword or dagger, shooting it with an arrow, poisoning it, setting it on fire, or knocking it off of the side of a large cliff.

CHIMERA

A hideous three-headed monstrosity, the Chimera dwells in the fiery depths beneath Lycia in Asia Minor. Its body is that of a male lion that is capable of breathing fire at anyone or anything that comes near it. It's goat head rests on top of its shoulders and speaks only in questions and riddles in order to confuse its prey. The Chimera's final head is that of a venomous serpent that also serves as the creature's tail. It is able to strike quickly at its prey in order to paralyze with its venom, thus rendering its victim helpless and allowing the lion portion of its body to quickly maul and tear into warm flesh. The Chimera is able to walk on all fours similar to its lion physiology, or on the cloven hoves of its hind legs, allowing it to stand fully erect to both intimidate its foe and allow the lion head to spew a stream of fire. The best way to try and kill the Chimera is to trick its three heads into arguing with each other. The moment the beast is confused, the head of the serpent tail must be severed, then the eyes of the lion must be blinded so that it will not be able to attack with its fiery breath, and finally, the goat head must be impaled in the brain; for that is where its cunning and intellect derive. Once this has been done, the fatal blow can be dealt to the lion, thus destroying the creature.

HYDRA

An ancient serpent-like beast, the Hydra lives deep within the spring of Amymone, a deep cave that can be found past the marshes of the swamp near Lake Lerna in Greece. It is a creature whose body is so filled with poison that is able to spew toxic fumes from its breath and deadly venom from its fangs. Although frightening to behold, the true terror of the Hydra is its unnatural botanical ability to duplicate and regenerate its head(s) whenever they are decapitated. It is assumed that the Hydra originated with only one head, however this theory cannot be proven due to the fact that whomever severed the beast's first head was most likely horribly killed by the creature after its first regeneration. This ability led many to believe that this creature is virtually immortal, however, this is not the case. The Hydra can be killed by either cauterizing the stumps of the necks with intense heat immediately after the heads are severed, or by crushing each of its skulls with a heavy or blunt object.
